ST. JAMES: A Service of Remembrance for Germaine H. Johnson, 82, of St. James, Minnesota, formerly of rural Trimont will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Hosanna Free Lutheran Church of St. James, Minnesota with Pastor Joe Faldet officiating. Burial will be in Waverly Lutheran Cemetery in rural Trimont, Minnesota with fellowship lunch following.
Germaine was called to her eternal rest on Saturday morning October 3, 2015 at Mayo Clinic Health System in St. James, Minnesota. Visitation and a time of sharing of memories with the Johnson family will be from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at Hosanna Free Lutheran Church in St. James, Minnesota and one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday. Germaine Hilma (Wolner) Johnson, daughter of Oliver and Ruth (Mossengren) Wolner, was born on January 2, 1933 in rural Watonwan County, Minnesota. Germaine was raised in rural Butterfield and was baptized at Kansas Lake Church. She moved with her family to rural St. James and was confirmed at Augustana Lutheran Church. She attended high school in St. James. Germaine was united in marriage to Lowell Johnson on December 7, 1951. They were blessed with five children that they raised on a farm in Galena Township, rural Trimont. Germaine enjoyed helping others and worked as a Nursing Assistant at Fairmont Community Hospital for many years. She was also an active member at Waverly Lutheran Church and more recently Hosanna Free Lutheran Church in St. James.Germaine was a talented artist and enjoyed drawing, painting, ceramics, and sewing, particularly dresses for her daughters. She also loved to tend to her flower gardens, cook and bake. She was known for her chocolate chip cookies, chicken noodle hotdish, brown raisin bread, and busterbar dessert. Germaine loved having a good time, she enjoyed dancing, and was an expert at shopping and finding a bargain. She always loved and welcomed family and friends to their home especially for Sunday dinners and holidays. Germaine adored children and cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a beloved wife, daughter, sister, grandma, and friend.
Germaine is survived by her husband, Lowell, of nearly 64 years; five children: Bryan (Leah) of Rochester; Jeffrey (Tonia) of Sioux Falls, SD; Alan, of Fairmont; Julie (Mark) Ufer of Sherburn; Jill (Rodney) Sorensen of Watertown, SD. 12 grandchildren: Eric (Veronica) Johnson, Britta (Patrick Blake) Johnson, Jennifer (Jack) Wenkel, Carrie Johnson, Avery (Samantha) Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Regina (Thomas) Jensen, Elizabeth (Al) Lucio, Christina (Gregory) Wood, Laura (Benjamin) Peymann, John (Katelyn) Ufer, Cora Sorensen. 25 great-grandchildren: Kailee Johnson, Asher Pflueger, Samuel Johnson, Adam Johnson, Alexander Blake, Tenzing Blake, Grant Wenkel, Bryce Wenkel, Bree Wenkel, Avery Jr. Johnson, Aaron Johnson, Mersadies Johnson, Jaden Johnson, Josephine Johnson, Madilynn Johnson, Joshua Jensen, Jordan Jensen, Sarah Jensen, Kyah Lucio, Nolyn Lucio, Mark Wood, Owen Peymann, Grace Peymann, Alivia Ufer, and Mack Ufer. Brothers: Gene (Donna) of Marshall, Gary (Meridee) of rural St James, Richard (Corrine) of Fairmont, Stephen (Sandy) of North Concord, New Hampshire, and Mark (Kathy) of Cottage Grove; Sisters: Joyce Wolner of St. James, Joan Bagley of Bloomington, Jane Mary Bergeman of Madelia, and Becky (Tom) Schmidt of St. James; sister-in-laws Jeanette Wolner of Madelia, Helen Hilgendorf of Alexandria, Lorraine Johnson of Sandstone, Arlene Krusemark of St. Peter; and many nieces and nephews.
Germaine was preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Chris and Edith Johnson; brothers, Jimmy, Joey, Bobby, and Johnny; sister Janet; brothers-in-law, Dick Bagley, David Lee, Loren Bergeman, James Hilgendorf, Lester Johnson, Merle Krusemark; sister-in-law, Velma Wolner, and other relatives and friends.
