  • Introduction

He was a piano professor at the Detroit Conservatory of Music. I was his student from 1948 until 1955. Henry was a pupil of the great pianist Emil Sauer in Berlin who had been a pupil of Franz Liszt. Henry concertized in Detroit and had a following of talented students. He was known for his beautiful tone on the piano. His repertoire included the great Liszt B minor Sonata and La Camponella as well as the Bach/Busoni transcription of Toccata in D minor. As his student, I made my debut with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in the summer of 1952 under the baton of conductor Valter Poole.
