Joseph Shacklett died at age 76 years old on December 7, 1991 in Tulsa, Tulsa County, OK, and was buried at Memorial Park Cemetery 5111 S Memorial Dr, in Tulsa.

Joseph Shacklett married Inez Evaline Kent (1912 - 2003) on August 2, 1937 in Golden City, Missouri, and they had children Lyle Kent (born 1938), Sandra Sue (born 1941), and Curtis Joe Shacklett (born 1945). A dentist, Joseph was a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army during World War II.
