  • Introduction

    He was born on a farm in Poland. Baptized as a Roman Catholic. Taken prisoner by Russian Forces in WW 2. Claimed to be a Tank Crewman (doubtful as the Polish Army was not known to have tanks at the beginning of the invasion.) After the defeat of the Axis powers was Hired as a pesonal Chauffuer for a US Colonel. Received a visa to immigrate to the US. Was married, but his first wife supposedly died here in the US. He married my mother; Margaret Anderson De Leon; Zurek. I was the step son; a daughter Victoria Ann Zurek was born in Chicago, Illlinios February 14th 1956. He was a machine tool and die maker employed by Stewart Warner in Chicago; retired and relocated to their Farm in Iron River, Mi 49935 in approximately 1980.

In 1918, in the year that Mieczyslaw Zurek was born, on November 11th, an armistice was signed between the Allies and Germany, ending the fighting on the Western Front in World War I. This meant a complete defeat of Germany although Germany never formally surrendered. It took another six months of negotiations to sign an actual peace treaty between the warring parties.

In 1920, when he was just 2 years old, in September, a bomb exploded in the J.P. Morgan bank building in New York City, killing 30 people immediately - 8 later died due to their injuries - and injuring another 200. Killing more people than the 1910 bombing of the LA Times (the deadliest terrorist act up until then), no one took responsibility and the perpetrators were never found. Italian anarchists were suspected of the bombing.
