    Ronald was born in Swansea, Wales in 1905 along with his brother Reginald who was born 2 years later. They emigrated to Ellwood City, Pennsylvania in 1909. When they were 4 and 2 years old. They boarded the Lusitania as 2nd class passengers. When the ship was torpedoed, the mother was searching for her sons but they went missing. Their bodies were never recovered.

Reginald emigrated at Ellwood City, Pennsylvania from Swansea, Wales in 1909. He boarded the Lusitania as 2nd class with his mother and brother Ronald (10). His uncle Alfred Smith and aunt and 2 cousins Helen (6) Hubert (6 months) boarded with them. On May 7, 1915 the ship was struck by a torpedo from a German U-boat off the coast of Ireland and sank in 18 minutes at 2:10 pm. Reginald and his brother, and aunt, uncle and infant cousin perished in the sinking and none of their bodies were found. His mother Cecilia and 6 year old cousin Helen survived.
