Esquire "Squire" Hall (aka Devil Squire) b 1800 Ashe Co NC d age 70 s/o Masias hall Sr and Unisiah Branham Smith. Esquire "Squire" Hall m. 15 Jul 1825 Wilkes Co NC to Eleanor Sturgill b 1804 NC, d/o John Sturgill and Amy Hall. Children of Esquire "Squire" Hall and Eleanor Sturgill;
Esquire was a soldier in the Union Army. He enlisted in the 39th Mounted Infantry. He was part of a special unit formed to act as spies to gather information on CSA troops by passing as a house servant. He was a sniper and had a high "kill count". He survived the war to be bushwhacked by Nancy Sward, who lay in hiding for him.
