Ferdinand Wisthoff
Born in Pomerania, E. Prussia Feb. 3, 1849. Served in the Kaiser's Regiment and immigrated the America in 1871. Ferdinand settled in Outagamie Co. near Black Creek, WI and farmed and worked as a blacksmith. He died of internal hemorrhage January 19, 1915 and is buried in the rural cemetery at the Evangelical Church at the crossroad of Co. road "A" and Pleasant Rd. He and his wife Bertha (Kollath) Wisthoff had ll children. The photo is from a large charcoal portrait.

Wow, very interesting. Do you know what he did for the Kaiser?
No, it was basically compulsory service to the German military. He went AWOL in order to leave with his family to America. We have a neat picture which is a large wall picture of his face placed in the artistic rendering of three different military officials. I believe this was distributed to the soldiers if they wanted to receive one. He is on horseback with sword and German helmet of the era and then in two other poses. My brother has the picture. It's kind of neat. I don't know anything more about his service in the military.
