John Wesley Anderson
John Wesley Anderson, African American, b. October 22, 1887 in Union Springs, Bullock County, Alabama, died August 27, 1959 in Norfolk, Virginia. Son of William Anderson and Lucy Crowell Anderson, graduated Wilberforce College in Xenia, Ohio and Yale University in New Haven, Conn. Charter member Aplha Phi Alpha fraternity at Yale, A.M.E. church membership. Married to Mary Estelle Highgate (pictured elswhere on this site) who was born in Dresden, Ontario, Canada. Papa Anderson loved driving more than anything, and would drive the family to Alabama and Ontario every summer to visit grandparents.
