Ca 1875, Sam became the famous leader of a gang of bandits that robbed railroads. Three years later on 21 June 1878, in Round Rock, Williamson Co, TX,he died of wounds suffered in an ambush plotted by Texas Rangers,local law enforcement, and the newest member of his gang, who betrayed him.
