Lydia was born in Leningrad, USSR, to Abarbanel / Gutkin family. Her father, Moyshe Abarbanel, was missing in action in WWII. Her mother, Masha-Libe Abarbanel (Gutkin) was born in Vitebsk on May 20, 1906 and died in Leningrad, USSR , in 1985. In 1953 Lydia married Abram Tipograf (1925 - 1995)
