Myra Clark Gaines in Civil War Fashion
Myra Clark Gaines in the height of Civil War Fashion. When she was 25, Myra Clark Gaines found out that she was the daughter of one of the wealthiest men in the U.S., Daniel Clark (she was raised by another family). Daniel Clark and Myra's birth mother (Zuilerne Carriere) had lived together openly and he admitted paternity by taking care of Myra financially. But is was a point of contention whether Daniel and Zuilerne had been married. This lead to the longest civil suit in American history. Myra died at the age of 81 with the case still undecided.
