Parade Float: Peets Soap Factory

Parade float, circa 1920: Peets Soap Factory in Kansas City. Mary Elva Ross (1903-1976), who later married Walter Alfred Vallis (1899-1975), met while working together at Peets. Mary Elva is one of the the young women on the float. In 1920, Mary Elva and Walter married in St. Joseph, Missouri, then raised their family in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Surnames include, VALLIS, TAYLOR, PALMER, CUTLER, PICKERING, HEDGES and SCRIVEN. Known 1800's Middlesex roots are specific to Poplar/Millwall. Buckinghamshire connections include the areas of Winslow, Swanbourne, Stewkley, Wing and Leighton Buzzard. *** U.S. family roots include ROSS and ROMAINE families from New York who went westward to settle in Kansas and Missouri. ***German Russian family roots include BOHL, KAHLER, HUCK, SPREIER, SCHULDEIS, SCHULTHEIS, FEUERSTEIN,GAS, JAEGER, EIKMEIER surnames. Our family immigrated from Russia; some family members came to the U.S., settling in the midwest. Other family members immigrated to Argentina.
