New Zealand was colonised 1840, found after the Maori by Able Tasman 1500s- and then Cook about 1788. Cna anyone help with list of Hawkins immigrants to NZ around these times, tk Neil.

Neil Hawkins
My name is Neil John Hawkins, I'm trying to find information on the Hawkins origin in New Zealand. My great grandfathers name was Haki Hawkins born 1883-1958. Married to Maryanne Hawkins. New Zealand discovered thirdly by Captain James Cook of the Endeavor from England about 1788. Later after tribal wars against the English a treaty was signed in 1840 between the two. However immigrants from England, America and other countries were common long beforehand. I don't have records further back than that, but there can't have been too many Hawkins around that time, unless they went by halloway, hawk, hawks etc. Transcripts prove difficult to correlate anything together though there are Hawkins names. Can you help please with any information. Neil John Hawkins.
