'Rob went up to Uncle Henry's in Natural Bridge and worked through the winter as a carpenter' -Ellen, his sister. 'Easter 1898, I received a class of young folks into the Universalist Church. Robert Van Tassel was in it. He attended St. Lawrence commencement exercises that year and made plans to enter the Divinity School that fall. We were engaged June 26, 1899.
