William John Burns
William John Burns was known as America's Sherlock Holmes. He served as the Director of the predecessor of the FBI (the BOI) and was the investigator (the Burns Detective Agency) in many high profile cases including Leo Franks' trial and the Teapot Dome Scandal. He was obviously prosperous - look at the diamond horseshoe tie tack!
After he retired from his detective agency, he wrote several detective and mystery stories based on his career.
