Mary Magdalene (Monaghan) Coad was my wife's maternal grandmother. She was born onboard the ship, Scottish Hero when her family were emigrating to Australia Her father was John Monaghan and her mother was Bridget Railly. Both her parent's were born in County Clare, Ireland. Both were assisted passengers, subsidised by the Queensland Government. The Scottish Hero disembarked her passengers in Maryborough, Queensland on the 3rd August 1886. Mary and her family did not move from Queensland to Tasmania until after 1896, 30 years after their arrival in Australia. All of the children of John and Bridget Monaghan's births were registered in Queensland. Mary Magdalene Monaghan married Claude James Coad in July 1909 at Zeehan, on the West Coast of Tasmania. They had 7 children, one of whom was Margaret Mary Coad, who married Reginald Herbert Watson in 1941 in Tasmania. Margaret and Reginald are my wife's parents. Submitted by Greg Stephenson

News papers at that date show little information. Police never found the person who was a man according to an eyewitness.
