Debolt country of origin
The DeBolts were Huguenots (French Protestants) who left Catholic France in the late 1600's. They went to all areas of the world looking for refuge; our DeBolts went to Protestant areas of Germany. Many of the Huguenots who emigrated to America spoke only German. Hans Michael Diebolt and his family arrived in America on Setp. 3, 1739 on the ship "Robert and Alice", arriving in Philadelphia from Rotterdam, Holland. Hans Michael's son, also named Hans Michael was among those passengers listed; only males 16 years or older were listed, so there were probably other children as well as their mother on the boat. There were known to be two younger boys, George and Henry. The name was changed to Debolt almost right away after coming here, and at some point later, became DeBolt, although in records it can be seen as Tiebolt as well.

Michael Debolt was a chain carrier on a survey of 115 acres for Mathews Rogers on the 14th lot on Patterson Creek, a tributary in Virginia of the north branch of the Potomac River. Abraham Tegerton/Tegardin also had land surveyed near mouth of Cabin Run on Patterson Creek in October, 1752. This may be where the two families became acquainted.
"Palatines imported in the ship Robert and Alice, Walter Goodman-commander, from Rottingham, last from Deal ("78 men, 57 women, 88 chilcren). Landed in Philadelphia. The passenger list includes: (1)Hans Mich. Diebolt and (2) Hans Mich. Diebolt*..(2 entries of same name. * indicates a name written by the clerk, for persons less than 16 years old. The second person could have been a brother, as suggested by Hstetler, in "Michael Debolt and His Descendants", or a son, possibly George Debolt. Other names are "autographs" written by passengers themselves, as was Hans Michael's)
