Lucretia Elizabeth Folkes, Mrs Griffith Philipps 1729-1810: Lucretia was the daughter of Henry Folkes, a London lawyer and his wife Mary. She was the niece of Sir Martin Folkes, the famous antiquary and sometime president of the Royal Society. She was descended from Hovell, Chicheley, Lilly, Mann, Dockwra, Bruges, Cotton, Gawdy, Bassingbourne, Clifford, Berkeley, Beauchamp &c and was a direct descendant of Edward III. She married Griffith Philipps, Member of Parliament for Carmarthen in 1757. She was the mother of Dorothea Plowden author of the comic opera "Virginia"

Born April 29, 1910 in St. Ann's Bay, Jamaica, Athelstan Canute Folkes (my father) married Leila Evadne Neysmith, eldest daughter of Mrs. Ellen Neysmith and Mr. Zechariah D. Neysmith, pharmacist, of Buff Bay, Portland at St. George's Anglican Parish Church, Buff Bay, Portland, in February 1935. At age 21, Athelstan (Athel) Folkes, son of Rufus Folkes and Katherine Folkes, of Alexandria, St. Ann, joined the Jamaica Police Constabulary during the island's British colonial years, eventually moving up the ranks to become Assistant Commissioner of Police. A man of noble moral standing and a Christian, Athelstan Folkes received several meritorious awards from the British government for long-standing excellent public service; including among these, as Justice of the Peace and Executor for Jamaica's Historical and Cultural Museum.

A Founder of Burmese Women of New York (BWNY), Florence Pu-Folkes has served as Educational Consultant and Advisor to the project Teachers Across Borders, serving in Myanmar; and continues to be active in a number of business and civic organizations and educational institutions (including having served as Past President New York State Association of Bilingual Education (NYSABE); as well as the New York State Educational Department. Florence Pu-Folkes is also currently involved as Music Leader at the local church of Elim Alliance in Rockland County.
