Originally, they were farmers and workers, but two brothers left Elbrinxen in about 1840-1850 to settle down in Denmark as glass workers. Those two brothers founded a big family of Hautops in Denmark, especially around the glass factories in Aalborg and Kastrup, Copenhagen. There are quite a lot of Hautops in Denmark but other parts of the family in Elbrinxen headed for the USA, and the Danish branch of the family also produced immigrants to both the USA and Australia, where you still can find descendants of the two "Danish" brothers.
