History

A history of the Khanlar family as told by an elder of the family in 1968:

Around 300 years ago, Hossein-Ali Khan and his tribe (consisting of 12000 households) lived in the Osman territory which is today's Turkey. Due to some animosity with the local ruling elements, he and his tribe left the area and moved to Iran.
His tribe was comprised of three groups - The Salmanlou's, the Dadaslou's and the Darqlije. They settled and pitched tents in the plains between what is now Tehran and Qazvin. The Local government, for political reasons, chose to divide and disburse the tribe in this fashion: 4000 households to the Khorassan district, 4000 to Karand and Za-ab in western Iran, and 4000 under the direction of Aqassi Khan to remain in the settled area - with the stipulation to provide a force of 600 mounted  men under his  own command  to the local government.
That was done and in ensuing period this force developed into an efficient well run fighting force. The local ruling party which were part of the larger Safavieh Dynasty were quite impressed and dubbed this tribe the Sailsopours. This in Turkish means "those who can mop up the battlefield".  Eventually, due to lack of adequate vegetation to support the raising of sheep and agriculture, Aqassi Khan purchased 63 sites in the Varamin area and set up townships and strongholds where the tribe proceeded to  farm and raise sheep.
All this time, Aqassi Khan was well regarded and a favorite of the ruling elite until the era of Aqa Mohammad Khan Qajar. The King - Aqa Mohammad Khan - ordered the confiscation of his townships and left him with only two villages for his sustenance.. He was altogether treated badly by the Shah. His relations with the next king, Fath-Ali Shah, took a turn for the better. He was generally in good graces with the monarchy until the rule of Mohammad Ali Shah and his son Ahmad Shah of Qajar dynasty. At that time, around 1907, the autocracy was replaced by a Constitutional Monarchy and the tribe’s relation with the monarch was severed completely.
From that point on, our family continued in Farming, Ranching, and Civil Service occupations. We first spoke Turkish, then a mixture of Turkish - Farsi and eventually about two generations ago our language became exclusively Farsi.
