Mercader Surname History

The Mercaders in the Philippines first settled in Batangas Province. They then migrated to Marinduque  where they established their families. There is a Mercader Avenue in Marinduque Province. As the Mercaders grew in Marinduque, they started to migrate to neighboring provinces like Cebu, Bacolod, Pagbilao in Quezon and Sorsogon in Bicol.

This is where our branch of the Mercaders grew from. My grandfather, Inocencio Roco Mercader came from here. He migrated to Manila and married Amparo Gonzales Mercader (from Bulacan). They established their residence in Isabel st., Sammpaloc, Manila. They had eight children; Josefina, Florentino (my father), Elvira, Ruben, Esther, Purisimo, Belen and Arturo.

My grandfather started working at Erlanger and Galinger Company before the war. This is where my father also worked after World War II. Erlanger & Galinger became E&G, later National Cash Register Company and finally NCR Corporation.
