Leroy Arthur 'Roy' Pixley (1886-1971)
My grandfather was born in Old Badger Mills, Wisconsin. He married Mary May Dellnow and lived in Kansas and Nebraska before later moving to California. Their son Melvin Arthur is my father. His father deserted the family; he was adopted by his grandfather James M. Pixley and raised by James and his second wife Clara Ball. The Pixley line goes back to the 17thC from England to Massachusetts. (I believe this to be a picture of James M. Pixley-but needs to be confirmed.) My great-great grandfather was born in Vermont and moved to Wisconsin where he raised his grandson, my grandfather Leroy Arthur Pixley. He served in the Civil War in the 2nd Cavalry Vermont Light Cavalry-enlisting in 1862 and was wounded and suffered serious illness during the conflict in Louisiana. A photo of Melvin Pixley as Potentate of Al Malaikah Shrine Temple-Los Angeles, Ca.-1960. My father touched so many lives and was beloved and respected in the community. He lead many organizations, including the Board of the Los Angeles Shrine Hospital and was Executive Officer of the Southern California Jurisdiction of the Order of Demolay. Born in Wichita, Kansas, he married Laberta Lucretia Blair in Nebraska and moved to California. He received numerous awards and recognitions for his countless contributions to fraternal and community organizations in the Los Angeles area over a period of many years. He was a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason-the highest honor bestowed in Freemansonry.
