My great grandfather, Nelson Howard, is 2nd from left. This is the Board of Santa Anita Racetrack. He passed away before I was able to ask him who these people were, so I got the names from Mr. Strub, son of the Strub pictured. They are from left:
Victor Ford Collins, 1st sect. of the corp. and general counsel to the Turf Club, Nelson A. Howard, Dr. Charles/Doc Strub, Hal Roach, Leigh Battson, Arthur Hastings and Dwight Whiting. These men were largely responsible for getting the race track built at Santa Anita in about 1934.

Ashleigh Elizabeth Roach, 16, died Sunday, October 26, 2003. Born May 29, 1987 in Escondido, California, she lived in Valley Center all her life. She was a student at Valley Center High School. Ashleigh had a passion for Irish dancing that equaled her love for playing piano, as well as being section leader of the pit in the Valley Center High School Band. In her world there were never enough kittens nor enough music. She saw the best in all of us. Her smile and twinkling eyes will be greatly missed. We love you, butterfly kisses. My daddy was an awesome man. He knew how to fix just about anything. He was a core man in the Vietnam war and saved countless lives. Once while at the VA hospital waiting for my father in law. Husban and I started talking about his experiences. One day there were to many wounded and dad ran out of supplies. He took his cig.pack out and used it as a make shift fix to stop a man from bleeding out. This lady came over to us crying. "Your dad saved my husband's life " we have always wanted to find him and say thank you. I had to tell her my daddy passed away years ago. She hugged me and said thank you your daddy was our hero.

Me bad forgot that he was born may 23 1894 death july of 1965 died indianapolis indiana i cant hardly find anything o ottie i heard he was on bailtimore ohio railroad in 1918 im doing this family history. Ottie is the hardest one to find then he married my great grandma 1918 in edwardsport indiana name pearharrington

I WAS EIGHT YEARS OLD THE DAY I CAME HOME FROM SCHOOL, TO FIND JUST ABOUT EVERYONE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD CROWDED AROUND AN AMBULANCE. MY SISTERS WERE STANDING, WELL I REMEMBER ONE OF THEM STOPPING ME BEFORE I GOT IN THE DOOR. I DON'T REMEMBER MADADDY BEING SICK, HE VERY SELDOM CAME OUT OF HIS ROOM AFTER BEING PARALIZED ON HIS LEFT SIDE, NOT KNOWING WHY, I USED TO TELL KIDS HE RAN NUMBERS FOR THE MOB AND BECAUSE HE HAD STOLE A FEW BUCKS TO HELP FEED THE ELEVEN OF US THEY DIDN'T WANT TO KILL HIM SO THEY THREW HIM DOWN A FLIGHT OF STAIRS, REMEMBER I WAS ONLY EIGHT,WITH A VIVID IMAGINATION.( HA HA). BUT I DON'T EVER REMEMBER HIM BE SICK EVEN WITH THAT BAD LEG I DO NO FOR SURE THAT THE AMBULANCE TOOK MADADDY AWAY THAT DAY AND I NEVER SAW HIM ALIVE AGAIN. NO ONE TOOK TIME TO EXPLAIN WHAT HAD HAPPEN. HE HAD TB I NEVER HEARD HIM COUGH, OR MAYBE I JUST DON'T WANT TO REMEMBER. THE ONLY DEATH I KNEW ABOUT WAS ON TV BUT THEY ALWAYS CAME BACK THE NEXT WEEK. I REALIZED HE WASN'T COMMING BACK THE DAY OF HIS FUNERAL LAYING IN THAT BOX AND EVERYONE AROUND ME CRYING, THE MAN THAT CALLED ME LUNNY (my names linette), BOUGHT ME AND MY FRIENDS ICE CREAM, LISTEN TO CHURCH ON THE RADIO,AND MADE SURE I WENT TO CHURCH EVERY SUNDAY WAS NEVER COMMING BACK. THE ONE THING I REMEMBER MOST IS HELPING HIM PUT THAT STIFF LEG ON A OTTOMMAN, IT WAS A SITE TO SEE LITTLE ME LIFTING THAT HEAVY LEG, AND HIM ROOTING ME ON. HE DIED WHEN I WAS EIGHT IN 1956 I AM NOW FIFTY TWO AND I MISS HIM MORE NOW THAN I EVER DID. HE WAS A GOOD MAN AND HE NEVER GOT TO MEET HIS MANY MANY GRAND CHIDREN FROM HIS TEN DAUGHTERS AND ONE SON, BUT I KNOW HE WOULD HAVE BEEN A GREAT GRANDPA. IN MEMORY OF ROBERT ROACH BORN JULY 1 1898, DIED AUGUST 1 1956 FIVE DAYS BEFORE MY NINTH BIRTHDAY.
