The Advertiser, Hurstbridge. 24 November 1939. DOREEN. GOLDEN WEDDING CELEBRATION. On Monday last, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Gemmell of "Mount Caroline," Doreen, celebrated the 50th anniversary of their wedding, which took place at South Yarra on November 21, 1889. To celebrate the occasion a number of friends and their only daughter Mrs. Rice Gemmell, of Mount Magnet, Western Australia, gathered at Mount Caroline on Sunday. Mr. Gemmell's father was a pioneer of the Beechworth district. As a young man, Mr. Gemmell joined the police force in 1888 and much of his time was spent in Ascot Vale, St. Kilda and the City watch-house.
