James Joseph Allt was born to Isaac Alt and Ellen Elizabeth "Nellie" Glennon. He had siblings Margaret, Thomas, Mary E., and Edmund Allt. A veteran of World War II, James enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps on December 26, 1941, in Boston Massachusetts. He was single when he enlisted. James Allt married Margaret H Allt (1916 - 1998) and they had four children, three sons and a daughter, named James Jr., Edmund, Elaine, and Kenneth Allt.
