  • Introduction

In an effort to correct a long standing error. This Joel never had a middle name of Cass or any other. He had a descendant with the middle name of Cass. I am certain this has created confusion and consternation to researchers looking for a Joel C/Cass born in 1786.

Did you know?
In 1833, by the time he was 47 years old, on August 12th, Chicago was incorporated as a town at the estuary of the Chicago River by 350 settlers. Chicago’s first permanent resident was a trader named Jean Baptiste Point du Sable, a free black man -perhaps from Haiti - who went there in the late 1770s. At first, it was simply a trading post but it grew quickly, going from trading post to town to city in 1837.
Did you know?
In 1841, at the age of 55 years old, Joel was alive when on August 16th, President John Tyler vetoed a bill to re-establish the Second Bank of the United States - America's Central Bank. President Jackson had previously dissolved the bank and Tyler's veto angered the Whig Party (his own party). Rioters gathered outside the White House and burned Tyler in effigy, threw stones at the White House, and fired guns. It may have been the most violent demonstration on White House grounds in U.S. history.
