Roland Carl Roddam was born to Travis Carl Roddam (1883 - 1970) and Willie Pearl Tucker (1892 - 1964). Both of his parents had been born in Alabama. He had six siblings: Vera Mae, Marvin Seay, Floyd C., Florence Margaret, Carl Travis, and Betty Jo Roddam. Roland married Lena Mae Burt (born 1916) on May 12, 1938 in Jefferson County, Alabama. Roland Roddam also married Beulah Elnora Scott in September of 1947 in Jefferson County, Alabama and they had five children. On his World War II draft card, Roland Roddam was described as being 5 feet 10 inches tall and as weighing 150 pounds. He had hazel eyes, brown hair, a "ruddy" complexion and a scar on the left side of his neck.
