Introduction

Sarah's maiden name is Lavell. Over time and in different countries, the spelling of her parents last name have been recorded wrong. She was born to Irish parents William Lavell and Ellen Kenny in Western Port Victoria in 1850. Sarah has 2 different known baptism records. The details on them are the same, however both are under incorrect surnames. She is the youngest of 6 children. She has 3 older bothers and 2 older sisters. William, Mary/May, John, James, Ellen (in order of birth) Her father, William, was born in Kilmore Ireland in 1806 and joined the 51st Regiment in England in 1825. Nothing is known about his family and his date and place of death is unknown. Her mother, Ellen Kenny, was born somewhere in Ireland roughly round 1822. Not much is known bout her. She died in 1874 and is buried in Sale under her second marriage/relationship surname.
