Hello All.As my great grandmother Mary May Purbrick, and many Purbrick families have lived in the Seymour area, for generations, and she married James Phillips, who had one brother in Australia,I may be related to Mary Isabella Purbrick. I have read a lot about Alister Purbrick and his World famous 3 generation Tahbilk Winery, still in production at Ngambie in the Seymour area. Well worth looking up on the Net,if you don't know of it.The Duke of Edinburgh stayed there once. It was written up in the Woman's Day- I have a copy of the article. If anyone has even the smallest piece of any Purbrick and/or Phillips information,and/or we are related, even if distantly,or not at all, I would be thrilled o hear from you. There have been so many Purbricks and Phillips in Australia and Mary and/or May were names given to the daughters over many generations. I missed out! A photo of anyone would be amazing! My Mum(born 1911,died 2004) was Edna May Stanley, and her Mum,Clara May Phillips,Mary May Purbrick's daughter,1 of children.I have a photo of her.Sadly she died of the Spanish Flu pandemic in 1919 at approx.32 years of age. They lived in Mount Barker in South Australia.Mum's Dad,Walter Hastings Stanley(1872-1931) remarried briefly in 1923 Matilda Emily(or Emily Matilda) Bradford-nee Walters. He and Mum ran away from her in 1923 by midnight train from South Australia to Wondai in Qld,then after work and school there, for a few years,to Southport,Qld. He was a Journalist. They changed their names on the Adelaide - Melbourne train to Sidney Wilfred Mason and Lorna Mason.Mum visited her grandmother in 1931/32/?,who died a year later at 72. Having lost a daughter, and a 3 yr. old son,Thomas, and not knowing where her grandaughter was,or even if alive, for 9 years must have been so sad for her! All families have their dramas! Today they would have been found within 24 hours ,with modern policing technology. Matilda would have been so humiliated in those days. She died at Henly Beach in S.A. in the 1950s. In the 1980s a beautiful middle-aged lady came into my shop in Sydney and she was a Purbrick WE got chating, and she had been married to Reginald Purbbrick, the owner of Tahbilk. She was a lovely woman. I guess we should have formed a friendship, but were never to meet again. I remember her beautiful blue eyes and a lovely blue gemstone ring on her finger. Small world! Thanking you for your interest and in anticipation of some news, yours,Hilary Ikstrums-Queensland.
