My Grandfather, Eli Goloubow was a strong leader in the South Bend community, especially in regards to the Zionist movement. He and Sarah (his wife/my Grandma) traveled often to Israel, where Eli would make many contributions to the cause. Eli also had many family members in Israel, as it was the only place welcoming Jews during that period of history (around 1917, before the Russian Revolution). Eli left Russia on horseback, made it to Israel (w/ his Brother), and eventually located family members who lived in the Michiana area. His Brother stayed in Israel, had a family and enjoyed a good life. Eli's strong determination and lack of fear had an influence on my life, and I think about him every day! He died too young (71), from brain cancer....he did not go down w/o fighting! Love you, Grandpa Linda/Guta
