    Herald and Review. Decatur, Illinois. Wed., 29 Nov 1995. page 5 SHELBYVILLE -- June Swiney, 78, of Shelbyville died 2:20 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 28, 1995) in Shelby Memorial Hospital. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, with visitation 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials: Shelby County Heart Fund. Mrs. Swiney was born in Moultrie County on Oct. 14, 1917, the daughter of Thurman and Ruth Pasco Cordray. She was a member of First Christian Church of Shelbyville and Shelby County Home Extension Okaw Unit. She married Don T. Swiney on Sept. 4, 1937. Surviving are her husband; sons, Ronald of St. Louis, Mo.; Gary Roger Swiney of Shelbyville; daughters, Mrs. Don (Pat) Bendler of Shelbyville; Mrs. Fred (Debra) Schouten of Kankakee; sister, Mrs. Delbert (Helen) Banks of Sullivan; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one great-grandchild.

June Cordray was the oldest of two children born to Thurman Grover Cordray and Mamie Ruth Pasco. She was a twin, but the other did not survive childbirth.

She married Donald Thomas Swiney on 30 January 1916, and they farmed north of Shelbyville, Illinois, until he retired.

They had four children, Ronald Dean Swiney, Gary Roger Swiney, Patricia Sue Swiney, and Debra June Swiney.

June was an outstanding cook, and she was a pretty good artist, having taken classes in painting. She had a great sense of humor, and usually wanted to eat her dessert first!

When grandchildren were around, she always wanted to get “a bite”!
