  • Ethnicity & Family History

Gary was a light-skinned Caucasian with blonde hair. He was adopted from a woman his father had an affair with. It was believed that his mother’s resentment of Gary stemmed from him being a constant reminder of her husband’s transgression. I wouldn’t be surprised if Gary’s genealogy led back to some Viking warrior. He would have looked at home in a horned helmet.
  • Nationality & Locations

Gary lived most of the first part of his life in Oklahoma City, OK, then moved to Daytona Beach, FL. in the late eighties or early nineties.
  • Early Life & Education

Gary earned a certificate or degree in HVAC technology.
  • Religious Beliefs

Given that most of Gary’s abuse and mistreatment came from hypocritical, religious zealots, he did not have a strong affinity for religion. Although, he would try to go along to be polite.

4 Memories, Stories & Photos about Gary

Void of anger.
In all the years I knew Gary, I never once saw him angry. During situations in which others would have become angry, Gary remained cool, calm, and even tempered. He may have understood how anger was a response to pain or threat. In accordance with his strength, he never showed evidence of physical pain. So, it makes sense that he wouldn’t show evidence of psychological pain or any admission that he felt threatened either. Gary was too busy being happy and making others happy to be bothered with anger. When I feel myself getting angry, I remember Gary and try to be more like him.

Trauma? What trauma?
Gary would tell us stories of the traumatic events and relationships he had endured and purposefully leave us on the floor laughing hysterically. He was bulletproof.

Gifted strength.
Gary was the strongest person I’ve ever met. He had huge muscles with a massive chest and tree-trunk arms. He always defended his friends from physical threats. I never saw him work very hard to maintain his strength. It was a gift. And, he used it to protect us.

Gary was one of the funniest people I ever met. We both lived in dysfunctional families and we got together to forget about them. No matter how bad your day had been, Gary would make you smile and laugh. He had the ability to take your bad situations and misfortune and get you to see it all as some divine practical joke. When people insulted him, it would make him laugh. His sense of humor was impenetrable. He took a lemon of a life and made lemonade. With all that life threw at him, I never saw anything get him down. Like some people extract oil from the most baron rock, Gary could extract happiness from the most dire situations. He gave me the strength to get through some tough times. You could really let your hair down around Gary and be your genuine self without fear of judgement. I always left him with my sides aching from laughter. All he ever wanted was to simply be happy and to make others happy. And, in my case, he succeeded.
