Romana M. Born-Otuski was my beloved grand cousin. She had been residing in Santa Monica, 1237 Berkeley Street, California 90404 and was married to Tsutomu B. Otsuki who died on December 21st, 2005. Romana was born in Essen, Germany and was my mother's cousin. As an illegitimate child Romana was brought up by my grandparents. On October 5th, 1941 she gave birth to her son Rudolf Born who was killed in the Auschwitz concentration camp on April 15th, 1943 after the Nazis had persecuted his paternal Roma family. Romana herself was taken to the Ravensbrück concentration camp and later to that of Bergen-Belsen. After its liberation on April 15th, 1945 by the British 11th Division Romana had been residing in Berlin and Stuttgart before she emigrated to the USA via Bremen in 1947. Through the years she regularly used to visit her family and friends in Germany. Seriously ill Romana finally decided to return to Berlin for hospital treatment and passed away on September 11th, 1993.
