I spent the first years of my life with grandma Nora. She was actually like a mom for me. We lived together in CDE, Paraguay, and she would send me to school. Sometimes, I wouldn’t want to go so I wouldn’t get dressed, so the school transport would already be in front of our home and would have to wait for me to get ready like 10 minutes. We used to watch Selena Quintanilla’s movie together. She was a fan of her as she was from New Mexico and Selena from Texas, which are neighbour states. In this respect, she was very keen on the Hispanic culture. The best memories of my spoiled childhood up until the age of 6 are with her. I remember she would teach me English from a pictured book. What I clearly remember is she teaching me the verb “jump” with the picture of a boy jumping. At school, in first grade, my classmates would call her the “teacher”, as she was American and we were all Paraguayans. She was the type of person who maintains people united, and once she passed away, all these people kind of lost connection with each other. Now, I ‘m 27 and a still miss her so much!
