James Bennie married Mary Douglas Scott (1846 - 1940) in 1865 in Australia and they had seven sons: James, Andrew, Walter, John, Thomas, Alexander, and Archibald and five daughters: Janet, Mary, Isabella, Maud, and Elsie.
