Bernice C. Box • Business owner, farmer NORTH FORK — Bernice “Bern” Box, 85, died on June 30. A memorial service was held on Monday at North Fork Town Hall. Arrangements were under the direction of Palm Colonial Funeral Service of Fresno. Mr. Box was born in Leoma, Tennessee on July 7, 1916 and moved to Madera County in 1936. He was a long-time farmer in Dairyland, a manager of Minarets Pack Station for 11 years and a feed store owner in North Fork for the past 23 years. Mr. Box was an accomplished and well-known storyteller and friend to all and will be deeply missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Claudia, North Fork, and daughters, Leoma Box, also of North Fork, Martha Nash, Madera and Suzy Mackenzie (husband, Shane), Young, Australia. He also leaves his sons, Zack Montgomery (wife, Brandie), Auberry, Ben Box, Madera and Henry Box, Fresno. He was brother to Bessie Cameron (husband, Aubrey), Madera, Joe Benefield, Keyes and Jean Conley (husband Charles), St. Francis, Arkansas. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Bernice Box, four brothers and five sisters. Remembrances: Sierra High School FFA Scholarship Fund, 33326 Lodge Road, Tollhouse 93667.
