Charles Harper Cleave was born in 1894 to William Walter Cleave and Mary Harper (Richey) Cleave, and had siblings Albert Bertram Cleave, William Walter Cleave, Ida Mary (Cleave) Walton, Andrew Vivian Cleave, Eva Ada (Cleave) Tuck, Victor Cleave, Emma Cleave, and Theodore Ernest Cleave. He married Ethel Margaret Harper (Halford) Cleave in 1919 in Saint Pancras, Greater London County, England United Kingdom, and they were married until death separated them. Charles Cleave died at age 53 years old on January 10, 1948 in Drouin, Baw Baw Shire County, VIC Australia, and was buried at Drouin Cemetery, 81 Weerong Rd, in Drouin.

The Panic of 1893, and the resulting depression, hit coal miners hard and the miners only struck for 8 weeks - they couldn't afford to live without their wages any longer.

In 1905, at the age of just 11 years old, Charles was alive when the first movie theater opened in the United States in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was the first theater to show nothing but movies - silent films. Two men, John P. Harris and his brother-in-law Harry Davis, opened the Nickelodeon on Smithfield Street - charging 5 cents for admission. The first day, 450 people watched movies at the new theater - on the second day, more than 1500 people stood in line to get in.
