Sir Colin Campbell 1855
A photo of Sir Colin Campbell GCB in 1855.
Colin Campbell was born in Glasgow Scotland in 1792. He was promoted to the rank of Major-General during the Crimean War (when this photo was taken) and fought in the battle of Alma. When he overthrew the last of the Russians, the only reward he asked for was permission to wear the highland bonnet instead of the cocked hat of a general officer. A true Highlander and a true Scot!
He died in 1863 and is buried in Westminster Abbey.
