    Emery Erwin Kathan was born on March 10, 1925 in Day, New York to parents Harmon Elwin Kathan (1897-1979) and Ella Melinda Allen (1901-1977). He had siblings Edith Sarah (1922-1975), Elmer Harmon (1923-1993), Mary J (1926-1997), Walter Burton (1928-1992), Lena L (1932-2008), Howard Harlem (1934-1989), and Marion Eva Kathan (1937-1994). He enlisted in the US Army on February 15, 1945 and served until December 7, 1946. A few years after being discharged he married Irene Allen Tin on July 29, 1948 in Day, New York, USA. They had multiple children together including Bruce Emery (1951-1976), Joyce, Sandra, Keith, and John Kathan. Emery worked for Brownell Lumber Co in Northville, the International Paper Co in Cornith, and after 15 years of service, he retired in 1978 from the Homestead Infirmary. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, the Trapper Association, and loved to hunt, fish, and trap.
