    Erik James Flom was born to Fred Flom and Virginia Tebbens McKee (1941 - 1981). His mother was born in Pennsylvania. He had one sister, Julie Flom. When he passed, Erik Flom lived with Lisa Shortridge in Homer, Alaska. He died in Thailand while on vacation, at the age of 29. The end of his obituary included this moving tribute: "To know Erik was one of the true pleasure of life. He had a radiance which was undeniable. His thirst for life and adventure was unquenchable. Erik loved the natural world and positively embraced the wilderness. He was fearless and strong and bright and creative . . . but most of all he was loved dearly by everyone.     ERIK FLOM Homer, Alaska Erik died unexpectedly while vacationing in Thailand on March 2, 1996. He was born September 26, 1966 in Appleton and moved to Dallas with his family in 1974. He graduated from Jefferson High School in Dallas in 1985 and spent a year at Southwest Texas University before leaving to pursue a variety of activities, centered mainly in the Rockies and largely revolving around skiing. He eventually returned to Wisconsin and attended the University of Wiscons, graduating in 1994 with a degree in Wildlife Ecology. The past four summers Erik liven in Homer, Alaska, and worked on fishing vessels. He move to Homer in the spring of 1995 aned was living there with his love, Lisa Shortridge. Erik was precede in death by his mother, Ginny McKee Flom, his paternal grandmother, Lois Flom, his maternal grandfather, Robert McKee. He is survived by his father, Fred Flom and step-mother, Kay Flom, Dallas, Texas; his sister Julie Flom, Huntington Beach, California; and his paternal grandfather, Russ Flom, Menasha. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as great friends in many places. A memorial service will be held at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 724 E. South River Street in Appleton at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 1996 with Rev. John McFadden officiating. A memorial fund with an ecological purpose is being arranged. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Wichmann Funeral Home. To know Erik was one of the true pleasure of life. He had a radiance which was undeniable. His thirst for life and adventure was unquenchable. Erik loved the natural world and positively embraced the wilderness. He was fearless and strong and bright and creative . . . but most of all he was loved dearly by everyone. We will never forget those great wooly hugs.
