    Ethel May Presley was born to Col. James Fowler Presley (1871 - 1915) and Mary Elizabeth Schultz (1877 - 1937). She had siblings Larkin W., Lily M., Leonard, and Frederick Presley. She also had half siblings Clara Whitaker, William Whitaker, and Elmer Whitaker. In official records, Ethel reported her place of birth as, variously, Louisville Kentucky and Blount County, Tennessee. Ethel Presley married John Mack Henry Sheckles (1908 - 1978) on October 13, 1932 and they had children John, Carl, Clara, Dorothy, and Helen. When Ethel died, she was survived by her five children, 24 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. See Ethel (Presley) Sheckles: Obituary.

    The following obituary appeared in The Courier-Journal (Louisville Kentucky) on Tuesday, October 11, 1994 on page 11: Ethel Presley Sheckles, 86, of 2125 Sycamore Ave., died Monday at Audubon Regional Medical Center. Survivors: two sons, John and Carl Sheckles, three daughters, Clara Clater, Dorothy Ingle and Helen Douglas; 24 grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Funeral: 10 am Thursday, McAfee-Resthaven Funeral Home, 4501 Bardstown Road. Burial: Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation: 2 - 9 pm Tuesday and Wednesday.
