H. A. "Tommy" Thompson was born on December 21, 1916. Were he alive today he would be 99 years old. He was not the most educated man I ever met, but he was one of the smartest. He was a First Sergeant in the US Army Corps. of Engineers in the Pacific Theater and actually was in charge of the building of the runway that the Enola Gay took off from on the day Hiroshima was bombed. He started as a Gas station attendant with Standard Oil and by the time he retired he was one of the plant managers for the Chevron Refinery in El Paso Texas. He taught me more about history by accident than most teachers and professors did on purpose. He was a wonderful Husband, father, grandfather, teacher and man. He taught me my love of family and is the impetus for my researching my family genealogy. He was married to Augusta, the father of Barbara, Thomas, Cheryl, Michael, and Robert. He was grandfather to Leslie, Laurie, Erik, Mark, Dominic, Alex and Katie.
