A mother, a friend, a partner in so much history..
One memory is Hattie, or Hattie P as we called her often, loved jazz. She introduced her son and his two best friends (including myself) to jazz. And there was so much. By the end of high school and college, we were also experts and loved jazz. We were blessed that we three friends taught together right after college in Lansing, Michigan, and in East Lansing, was a famous jazz cub, The Stables. It was small but every jazz great played there, from Miles to Freddie Hubbard to Les McCann & Eddie Harris to Coltrane's drummer, Elvin Jones. And Hattie came and stayed with us a lot and enjoyed the jazz greats just an arms length away. We invited the jazz greats to the high school we ran and every one of them came and performed in the school Rap Room - with Hattie P always dong the intros. There was so much more to Hattie P, she stood as woman and brought up three great children that all finished college. Hattie gave me such insptiration all the time, and so many around her. She changed my life, she did truly make the world a better place, especially in 706!
