Henry Dembitz was a family man and veteran who was born on March 4, 1905 in Orange County, New York, USA. He was the son of Leopold Dembitz (1863-1953) and Sarah Hoffman (1877-1925) and had six siblings Irving, Ernest, Lillian, Edward, Adolph, and Surite "Sue" Dembitz. Henry enlisted in the military on May 19, 1942, at Fort Jay Governors Island in New York. A year later, at the age of 37, Henry married (1906-1986) on January 14, 1943 in Prince George, Virginia, USA and they had two daughters together. The couple relocated to Sebring, Highlands, Florida in 1950. Henry passed away at the age of 68 on March 15, 1973 in Highlands County, Florida. This is the story of a man who lived a full life, dedicated to his family and country.

Henry Dembitz enlisted in the military on May 19, 1942, at Fort Jay Governors Island in New York, with military serial number 32339473. He was inducted as a Private, Selectee, and his military branch was Branch Immaterial - Warrant Officers, USA. His terms of enlistment were "For the Duration of the War or Other Emergency, Plus Six Months, Subject to the Discretion of the President or Otherwise According to Law." During World War II, the US Army employed a "Selective Service" system that drafted young men into military service. This system aimed to supplement the regular Army and National Guard troops with a massive influx of young and able-bodied men. Henry Dembitz was among those drafted during this time.
