He married Elizabeth Ann (Hawkins) Annear in 1863. They had children Fanny Desbrowe Annear, Harold Desbrowe Annear, James Otto Annear, Elizabeth Anne Annear, John Henry Annear, and Gerald Albion Annear. He also married Hannah Godwin Annear, and they had children Emma Annear, Sarah Jane Annear Floyd, Flora Desbrowe Annear, and John James Annear. James Annear died at age 69 years old in 1883 in Richmond, VIC Australia.
