James boarded the Titanic with his father and brother Walter (9). The ship was struck by an iceberg at the North Atlantic Ocean on April 14, 1912 then sank by splitting in two at 2:20 am. James and his father and brother sadly perished in the sinking. Boys that were James and William's age were not allowed to board the lifeboats with other women and children as well as men.

They were one of the English speaking 3rd class families on board Titanic and that perished during the sinking.
