He married Frances Marie (Tortorice) Buquoi on February 14, 1966 in Chicago, Illinois, and they were married until Jan's death on July 9, 2007 in Laurel, Jones County, Mississippi. Jan Buquoi had a child Francine Marie Buquoi.

He was in band during his high school years and sang in a variety of church settings during his adult years. He loved his children and his wife very much. He was a devoted grandfather. He was a mechanic until he was injured by a falling car. He became disabled and his health failed him over a number of years.
