Introduction

My grandmother liked gardening, and sewing. She let me help her in the yard, teaching me the names of flowers. She liked to sew on a 1938 White sewing machine. I have it today. She knitted, crocheted, cross stitched, and embroidered. She was a good southern cook. I lived next door to my grandparents growing up. My grandmother helped me do homework, played games with me, and took care of me when sick. She taught me to decorate for Christmas. We had lights in all the windows, holly from our tree on the mantle, and packages decked out with bright paper and ribbons. She bathed me in the sink at our Jacksonville Beach house. I was 2, and still remember it. She was a wonderful grandmother and I miss her!

Marion Linwood & Jessie Wake Upchurch Patterson, My maternal grandparents, were married in Tallahassee, Florida on 19 Apr 1919. He was b. Pittsylvania County, VA, and she was born in Moore County, NC. They had one daughter, Agnes Lounette Patterson. Jessie is the d/o James Curtis Upchurch & Repsie Rochester Cotten, and Linwood is the s/o John Thomas Patterson & Mary Jane Williams. Linwood died 17 Sep 1977, and Jessie died 26 Aug 1997. They are both buried in Roselawn Cemetery, Tallahassee, Florida.
