Troake (1891-1975). He married Gertrude Charlotte Sussex (1889-1971) in 1913 in Victoria Australia and they had three boys and a daughter - Joan Wilhemina (1913-2006), Colin Theodore (1917-1977), Francis Willfred (1919-1990), and Jack Troake.

In 1888, in the year that John Alfred Troake was born, on January 12th, the 'Schoolhouse Blizzard' blanketed Dakota Territory. Montana, Minnesota, Nebraska, Kansas, and Texas were hit, leaving 235 dead. Many of those who perished were children on their way home from school. The day was relatively warm when it began and the blizzard hit unexpectedly, catching most by surprise.

In 1909, John was 21 years old when explorer Robert Peary, a Rear Admiral in the U.S. Navy, claimed to have been the first to have reached the geographic North Pole. His claim has been disputed for over a century - some say that he ended up 60 miles from the North Pole. Peary was the only navigator on his team and he didn't submit his records for public review.
