John Henry Brockett Jr was born at Yonkers, Westchester, NY to John Henry Brockett Sr and Julia A Bristow Brockett. His father was born in NC and his mother in SC. The date of his birth is 6 April. In his military records his birth year is listed as 1914. In his social security record his birth year is listed as 1915. In 1915 the NY state Census his birth year is 1915. In the 1920 US Census his age is listed as 5-2/12. He is living at Suffolk, East Hampton, NY with his parents and sister Bessie A, age 2-8/12. In the 1930 US Census his age is listed as 14. He is living at Sparkill, Orangetown Township, Rockland, NY with his parents and siblings, Bessie (12), Timothy (7), and Samuel (6). On 28 August 1939 in Martinsville, Henry, VA John Henry Bracket married Bulah Naomi Beck. John Henry's parents were listed as were Naomi's parents, Eugene Beck and Ida Allen. The bride and groom's addresses were listed as Thomasville, NC. John Henry's occupation is listed as Teacher. In the 1940 US Census his and his wife's age and birth locations were given incorrectly, apparently by their landlord. They were "lodgers" at 100 Church Street in Thomasville, NC. Both of their occupations are listed as "Teacher" in "Public School". This location is three blocks from Church Street School. In the late 1930's and early 1940's, JH Brockett is named in several articles in the local Thomasville newspaper as the coach of the football team. February 1943 John H Brockett entered the military at Fort Bragg, NC. He was discharged at Fort Bragg, NC June 1946. He was a Company Commander at the time of his discharge. His records state he was part of "Advanced Supply" and "Trucking". He was at the Battle of Luzon in Philippines, for which he received the Liberation Medal. He also received the Occupation Medal for his service in Japan. 1949 through 1951 he is in the records of Guilford County NC Schools and also in the records of the Palmer Memorial Institute at Sedalia, NC, where he is listed as Administrative Dean. In 1957-1958 he is listed as interim president of Livingstone College. Though, in 1958 his wife is listed in the Miller's telephone directory in Thomasville NC at the same address as they lived in 1940, he is not listed there with her. The records at Livingstone College give his birth and death year as 1915 - 1992. Social Security records show that John Henry Brockett Jr died on 18 August 1992 at Ridgewood, Bergen, NJ. His obituary was published on 19 August 1992 in Hackensack, NJ. His wife is listed as Shirley Ford Brockett. His son John H Brockett 3rd and brothers Samuel and Timothy are named in the obituary.
